The Italian man who doesn't speak English well,was hired by NAVY as submarine officer.
He was fully trained in all areas such as Basic radio and phone operation including determining the level of emergency response, dispatch call techniques, and getting information from the caller.
One day, a cargo-carrying submarine was growing heavier from water flooding the engine room.The officer reported status via underwater telephone.The transmission was garbled, though some words were recognizable:
"[We are] sinking ,[We are] sinking" [over]
With no immediate response.....There was no one on the field to respond to a radio call.
Then Italian officer acknowledged without a brisk, "Whaaat![on pause], He then proceeded ''whaaaaat are you sinking about"
He thought ''we are thinking''.....^^
Is it possible to communicate in the language, even if you don't speak it well.??
