Michelle Obama:first lady of fashion!

Here are my top reasons why we love Michelle Obama's modern look:

She loves color. Check out the purple dress Or the yellow suit....Fabulous!

She loves classic style. This first lady has a unique style. While she may usually have that sort of 1950s vibe going on, she is very much a modern fashion icon.

She loves to mix it up. As most of us do with our wardrobes, Obama is a fan of "high-low" dressing. She wears a designer gown one evening to a gala and an outfit from J.Crew the next day on "The Tonight Show."

She loves young designers. Mrs. O is democratic about her fashion choices. There's no doubt about it. One of her favorites is Thakoon Panichgul, known for his use of bright colors and prints exemplified in the dress she wore to the Democratic National Convention.

She loves to be loyal. Obama may enjoy shopping off the rack and wearing all kinds of fashion labels, but she is a loyal follower of her hometown Chicago-based designer Maria Pinto as well. It was one of Pinto's purple, silk sheath dresses that Mrs. O wore on the cover of Newsweek.

She loves wearing prints.Forget subtle, MO thinks big — big prints that is. The black and white leaf print dress she wore to co-host "The View" last June brought her rave reviews.

She loves to take risks. OK, so no one's perfect. There have been a few blips on the fashion radar screen for Mrs. O. Her black and red dress — designed by Narciso Rodriguez — from Election Day did not particularly flatter her, but, hey, the Obama family was color-coordinated all in black and red, so who cares?

She loves to show off her figure. The bare arms, the bare legs, even a bare midriff or two here and there ... if you've got it at age 44, why not flaunt it? A little bit— first lady is not afraid to wear body-conscious clothing that shows off her curves.

She loves accessories. MO loves it all: High-heeled boots, chic flats, wide belts and unique jewelry. With just one notable fashion accessory, she brings an updated touch to her classic clothes.

She loves fashion. Even when she's taking her girls out for a casual outing in khaki pants, a T-shirt and a sweater, this first lady is pulled together and looks like a million dollars. Hopefully, we can all learn a few new "democratic" fashion lessons in the coming years.
