Super Typhoon Haiyan hits Philippines
More than 10,000 people are believed to be dead and millions left homeless after Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines with speeds of up to 170mph (274kph), triggering major landslides, knocking out power and communications and washing away homes, schools and airport buildings.
In the worst-hit areas, 235mph winds created 20ft waves that are thought to have killed between 10,000 and 15,000 and left 500,000 homeles.
