1980 was Tanzania's most successful year ever, with Filbert Bayi winning silver in the 3000m steeplechase and Suleiman Nyambui winning silver in the 5,000m. In 2012, former Commonwealth Games champion Samson Ramadhani leads the countries hopes. He finished fifth in the world championships in 2005 but has never performed at an Olympics, finishing 40th in Athens and 55th in Beijing.
