PFA player of the year shortlist unveiled!

Robin van Persie could win the PFA Player of the Year award for a second successive year - but this time for Manchester United
The shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award has been announced with Gareth Bale,Michael Carrick, Luis Suarez, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Robin van Persie all nominated.

The shortlist includes no defenders or goalkeepers, and no representation from champions Manchester City. The biggest surprise is the absence of Swansea striker Michu,who has scored 17 goals in his debut Premier League season.

ROBIN VAN PERSIE (Manchester United)
Robin is one of the finest strikers in the world. He was a crucial signing for Manchester United. He has been the icing on the cake in his first year at Old Trafford, chipping in with crucial goals and eight assists as Manchester United look set to seal their 20th league title.

The former Arsenal striker is second to Suarez in the scoring charts this season

JUAN MATA (Chelsea)
Mata has been Chelsea’s most consistent and creative player. Not massive in stature but has good balance, technique, passing ability, awareness, to get goals and make them.

He has had an exceptional second season at Chelsea, scoring 10 league goals and 11 assists despite off-field turmoil at Stamford Bridge.

LUIS SUAREZ (Liverpool)
It is not always possible to put old heads on young shoulders but his football ability shines through.Suarez leads the Premier League golden boot race with 22 goals for Liverpool this season, as he recovered from a stormy year to put in some fantastic performances for the Reds under new manager Brendan Rodgers.

MICHAEL CARRICK (Manchester United)
A surprising inclusion on the list is Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, who has in the past been criticized for his lack of influence in the midfield. However, the 31-year-old has proved critics wrong this season, only missing one Premier League game all year.

GARETH BALE (Tottenham)
Bale is a brilliant player.He had an outstanding season an outstanding season with Tottenham, scoring 17 goals in 27 Premier league appearances, and also putting in some stunning performances with Wales. His pace, acceleration, crossing ability and goals are just excellent.

EDEN HAZARD (Chelsea).
Mata's team-mate Eden Hazard has also adapted well to the Premier League, wowing fans with his skills alongside his eight goals and nine assists.

Eden is in the best mould of the Barcelona-type midfielders. He has a good reputation and is top quality.

Bale and Hazard are also nominated for the Young Player of the Year award with Christian Benteke, Romelu Lukaku, Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere completing the list.

The 2013 winner will be announced on 28 April at a dinner in London.
