Portugal and Benfica legend Eusebio dies at 71
Footballing legend Eusebio da Silva Ferreira died after reportedly suffering a heart attack at his home in Lisbon.
Eusebio, 71, who was born in Mozambique, played for Portugal, becoming the first black African global soccer star and was widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time.
The Black Pearl emerged as football’s popularity was exploding across the world and he was partly responsible for the globalisation of the sport. He was revered as highly as George Best, Franz Beckenbauer, Johan Cruyff, Bobby Moore and Pele.

He played 64 times for Portugal, scoring 41 goals and represented Portugal at international level and became a national hero with his wonderful performances at the 1966 World Cup in England.
