Michael Sam set to become first openly gay NFL star

24 year old defensive lineman Michael Sam has announced is openly-gay. In an interview with ESPN Sunday Feb. 9th, Sam said:
I am an openly, proud gay man. I understand how big this is. It's a big deal. No one has done this before.
If he is drafted to national league in May 2014, will become the first openly homosexual in the NFL.

Sam, who currently plays for the University of Missouri, said his college teammates know about his sexuality and support him 100% and hoping to get the same acceptance from the NFL.

The NFL don't seem to mind that he's gay.
We admire Michael Sam's honesty and courage.

Michael is a football player. Any player with ability and determination can succeed in the NFL. We look forward to welcoming and supporting Michael Sam in 2014.
Athletes are coming out. Rugby player Gareth Thomas and cricketer Steven Davies both earned national acclaim for their decisions to come out. Former Leeds United soccer participant Robbie Rogers announced he was homosexual last year as did NBA player Jason Collins.
