Boko Haram strikes again in Borno state, killing at least 35

The Islamic extremists struck again in Borno state, sacked the entire village of Maiduguri and killed dozens of residents on Saturday.

An eyewitness said the attackers dressed in military uniform came into Maiduguri town using motorcycles and Hilux Toyota vans laden with Improvised Explosive Devices, AK47 rifles, Rocket Propelled Launchers, petrol bombs and started shooting everywhere, and there after they they went ahead, hurling explosives on houses.

Almost all the village with hundred of houses have been destroyed by the rampaging insurgents. The primary school in the village, some vehicles and shops were also burnt.

The state Police Commissioner, Lawal Tanko, has confirmed the incident and the death of 35 people but according to sources the number rose to 52, and some people still trapped in the rubble of a collapsed building, so the death toll is expected to rise.

It was further gathered that the insurgents attacked the Mafa Local Government Area headquarters and succeeded in setting some houses ablaze in the area. There was no casualty figure of 11pm on Sunday.

More than 300 civilians have been killed this month in the states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa
