Dancehall artist Vybz Kartel sentenced to life in prison for murder

Jamaican dance hall star Adidja Azim Palmer popularly known as Vybz Kartel has been sentenced life behind bars for murder.

The 38-year-old was found guilty last month of murdering an old associate, Clive 'Lizard' Williams.
Kartel and three other associates were sentenced to life in prison today April 3 after a 65-day trial.

The four men are accused of killing Clive after calling him to Kartel's home to discuss about two missing guns that Kartel owned. He was reportedly beaten to death, but his body was never found. The key piece of evidence that nailed Vybz was a text message that was retrieved from his phone which stated that William’s body has been chopped up into fine pieces and that it will never be discovered.

Kartel must serve prison time for 35 years before he can be qualified for parole. His lawyers are planning to planning to file an appeal.

The singer previously arrested in 2011 on drug charges and the murder of a Jamaican businessman, Barrington Burton. 

Though the charges were were later dropped, he remained in prison pending his second murder trial of Williams which started since November 2013.
