Motivational blogger Karyn Washington commits suicide, aged 22
Karyn Washington, the founder of popular website For Brown Girls (FBG) reportedly committed suicide on April 8, aged just 22.
Her friends say the inspirational blogger, who founded the site three years ago to 'celebrate the beauty of dark skin while combatting colorism and promoting self love, was fighting personal battles, after losing her mom to cancer in 2013.
Karyn, who motivated thousands everyday through her blog, never shared her problems with her fans and readers, who were most shocked when news of her death hit headlines.
One of Washington’s great influence was her #DarkSkinRedLip project, which she launched after rapper A$AP Rocky mentioned that darker-skinned women should not wear red lipstick.
Ms. Washington allowed all shades of women to band together in knocking down barriers in beauty by encouraging them to embrace their beauty and claim confidence in wearing any lipstick they please. This encouraged girls/women all over to post photos of themselves boldly wearing red lips!.
