ESPN anchor Stuart Scott dies at 49

Legendary ESPN anchor Stuart Orlando Scott died today January 4 after a long battle cancer. The network made the announcement this morning.

Scott, who worked as an anchor for ESPN and ABC Sports for 21 years, was one of the most recognizable figures on US sports television and in July 2014, he received the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at the ESPYs - where he opened up about his battle with cancer.

Scott said he had 4 surgeries in seven days in the week prior to his appearance at the ESPY, when he was suffering from liver complications and kidney failure.

He's survived by two daughters. May his soul rest in peace.
